Adjustable Shifter

The above image shows the shifter at stock height and then at its lowest setting. With the shifter that low the length of the throw is roughly 50% of the stock throw, as you can see, the change in height is not so drastic, but the shifting is, after installing set it high, drive around the block, then drop it and you’ll know you have made a great investment. Fits very well under the stock boot and is easy to adjust too. Please do not adjust while driving, just do it at the next light, then school the kid next or behind you!

How do you Drive?
Most of the mods available for any vehicle focus on one thing: power. Then there are some mods that focus exclusively on style, sometimes even at the expense of speed. There are some products that will improve the Cooper’s handling. Finally, there are a few performance products that you can add to your MINI that are focused on you, the driver, and your interaction with your Cooper, this is one of those products.
In a League of It's Own
The Adjustable Shifter from Craven Speed is not like any other product on the market. It is the only short shifter that gives you the option to set and re-set the shift length and height at any time. Are you are a ‘spirited’ driver? Me too. That doesn’t mean that every time you stop at a light, you feel you must peel away with your foot mashed to the floor. It just means you enjoy the thrill of sudden acceleration, one might even say you were Craven Speed?
If you enjoy driving, then you probably have paid attention to your quarter mile time or at least your 0-60. I say ‘your’ time because quarter mile is as much about the driver as it is the car. In a quick sprint, the less time you are on the clutch means more time on the gas, you need time on the gas to let the engine, you’ve worked so hard to improve, do it’s job.
A short shifter is the only thing that will get you off the clutch, and back onto the gas pedal. Trouble is, you drive your car everyday, and you don’t race everywhere you go. Having a shifter set to 50% of the stock throw will get you through the quarter mile quicker, but it will also be harder on you and your MINI. Short shifters take away the leverage the factory gave you in exchange for smaller, quicker, and more precise movements. Traffic is already the bane of manual drivers; the extra leverage only makes it worse.
No Down Side?
With the Craven Speed Adjustable shifter you don't have to live with the disadvantages that accompany other short shifters, because you set it how you want, when you want, without tools. It is infinitely adjustable from factory length to 50% shorter. What's more, with our patent pending design, you can't go too far when you adjust. The Shifter has a built in high and low stops so you don't even need to look to adjust it! Also, our shifter is hybrid designed and CNC machined from 1144 "Stresspruf", black oxide steel and anodized 6061 Aluminum.
Selection Tips
Select "Dec 2003 and Newer" if when you pull up the plastic ring around the shift boot and the main shift housing is black with a white retaining clip. Part# CR-MC-0018.
Select "2002-2003" if the housing is white with grey retaining clip. Part# CR-MC-0017. The cutoff is build date of 12/03 for the 2004 and newer kit. The production date is noted on the label of the inside door jamb on the drivers door.

Our shift knobs are lathe crafted out of 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum.
This screw type knob works with Craven Speed short shifters. It twists onto the shifter. Then you can be locked in place with the set screw down near the base. This knob will fit the stock shifter of most vehicles with a screw type knob, such as the MINI’s, WRX, STi, tC, and many others. The M12 1.25 tap works with every aftermarket shifter we have tested, as this is a standard thread size in the industry.

This adapter allows use of stock Mini shift knob with any available short shifter on the market. It also will accommodate any BMW shift knob as well as any model Mini. It is made from a high quality plastic called Delrin. The adapter twists onto the shaft of the shifter ( m12x1.25) which is the size of all after market shifters, push and lock on and ready to let loose with that original look.
Delrin is the brand name for an acetal resin engineering plastic invented and sold by DuPont. Often marketed and used as a metal substitute, Delrin is a lightweight, low-friction, and wear-resistant plastic capable of operating in temperatures in excess of 90 degrees Celsius (approx 200 degrees Fahrenheit).

There's more than one way to keep your MINI shifter housing free of debris, yet so many cars come with the same old shift boot from the factory. For us, 'same old' and MINI do no go well together. Something unique was called for.
Drawing inspiration from the gated shifter found on some of the finest Italian autos, Craven Speed created this shift well cover for the MINI. With a recent revision you'll notice the improved look of our shift well as we have done away with the top screws.
They have been replaced with some new screws on the underside of the center console. Not only does it look better, but the un-boot is held even more securely than before in this position.
In order to keep dust and debris away from your shifter housing, our shift well uses a sliding plate that you attach to the shifter itself. A custom spring sits around the shifter atop the pivoting ball, and keeps the plate pressed up against the bottom of the well.

Overdrive Crank Pulley/Alternator Pulley Set
Power Usurpers
Your supercharged MINI has leeches! The Crank pulley that moves the belt, that spins the supercharger pulley and alternator, that puts the pressure on the engine, in order to get power out of a mini engine, is too heavy! This 7 lb weight that the engine has to spin every time you rev the engine is leeching power that could be much better spent on making the car get up and go. Craven Pulleys are severely lightened to severely cut rotating mass. Compare the 7lbs. weight of the Cooper S model crank pulley to a mere .875 lb. on the Craven lightened pulley.
Bigger IS Better (sometimes)
This pulley is 2% over sized to drive your supercharger faster by altering the ratio between the size of your supercharger pulley and that of the crank pulley. When combined with the popular 15% reduction supercharger pulley a synergistic effect is achieved. The ratio is exaggerated such that much less energy is required to spin more revolutions. The result is increased pressure (psi)(boost) at the disposal of the supercharger. Experts have likened the results to using a much smaller supercharger pulley, like a 19% reduction. By increasing the size of the crank instead, you can retain the stock sizing on your belt. Since we use our Tru-form profile on all of the pulleys, we manufacture, your belts will last longer.
All Craven Pulleys are precision CNC machined to +/- 0.001" in order to maintain better-than-factory balancing and minimize excess noise.

When you put a smaller pulley on your MINI's supercharger, then the crank spins it faster.
When the supercharger pulley spins faster, it creates more pressure (psi).
When the supercharger has more pressure, the engine gets more boost.

Not too much
Craven Speed's supercharger pulleys are machined to a 15% reduction of the original equipment on your MINI's supercharger. It is widely accepted that 15% is a safe size reduction on this particular supercharger. Changing this pulley will still allow you to use the OEM belt. The diameter of the pulley is still large enough to avoid slippage with the help of our Tru-form tooth profile. Smooth, form fitting teeth on your pulley take longer to machine but are worth the extra time. Our pulleys will neither eat nor throw your belt, so you can be confident it will last longer. You also will not have to put up with excessive belt noise. The Craven Speed race tested pulley utilizes a 2 piece collet style design that locks the pulley to the shaft. Three bolts are used to ensure that the pulley is secured flat to the hub--because everybody knows that 3 points define a plane. These bolts are rated to hold 800lbs each and are used to activate the collet-type clamp. Once installed, there is almost no force whatsoever applied to the bolts.
It is widely accepted that this 15% size reduction pulley is the optimum balance between performance and engine longevity. It also leaves plenty of surface area so as to avoid slippage of the serpentine belt, and independently raises boost about 4 psi and 18-20hp!!!

Infectious G Spots
Whether you are competing at an autocross or driving on a Sunday afternoon your MINI is at risk. Unless you already have some STD's, you ought to catch a few just to be safe. Because around every corner, in the very depths of every pothole, and the pinnacle of every bump G forces lie in wait. The occasional G may seem harmless by itself, but at times there may be several lurking in one rut and once they have done their damage to the sheet metal atop your tightly sprung strut towers, it will be difficult to resume normal activity.
Mushrooming
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but you may not be able to detect the mushroomed strut towers if you looked at a thousand photos. Less than one inch of tower deformation can be extremely detrimental to your MINI's alignment. This has been a common issue that MINI owners have had to face. It is a compromise in the design of the vehicle, where the tight springs allow for the griptastic handling that we love on the twisties, but are the main reason that our MINI's have a unique disposition for sheet metal deformation.
STD’s (Strut Tower Defenders)
Craven Speed STD's are a preventative measure. Instead of suffering the consequences of a lack of protection, using STD's to your advantage will strengthen your MINI's strut towers before deformation can occur. By sandwiching the sheet metal between the strut and our 1/2 inch thick aircraft aluminum plate, it is strengthened ten-fold. STD's come in pairs, one for the right tower and one for the left.
Craven Speed STD's retain a 1/2 inch thickness throughout ensuring that there are no weak spots. Installation is easy, using the included instructions, it will take about 10 minutes to ensure that you do not have to go through a lengthy and expensive alignment repair. You do not need to lift the car, and the only tool needed is a torque wrench.
Craven Speed STD's are available for both the 2002-2006 (R50/52/53) MINI in both black and red. The pair comes with custom made, 14mm, bolt adapters. These adapters are necessary to allow installation of such a thick plate without weakening the piece at the attachment points.

Continuous Improvement
The new Craven Speed Cold Air Intake works on the same principals as our first intake for the MINI R53. In fact, the overall design has changed very little. At Craven Speed we recognize that nothing is ever perfect, and we make revisions and improvements to parts with each run. We would never sell something that did not function properly, but that doesn't mean it cannot be improved. Most revisions are so minor that we may be the only ones who notice. For instance, we added a second setscrew to our gauge cups to give a better balance of force so the gauge seats right on center. We made our stubby antennae work on both generations of MINI with a new tapping process. Point is, we are the kind of people who see something for what it could be instead of what it is, so we always work to make it better. In this case we made our cold air intake for the R53 MINI, Much Better.
Original Design (was great)
One of the best ways to get some more power out of your R53 MINI's engine is to increase the volume of cold air available to the engine. The Craven Speed Cold Air Intake allows massive amounts of cold air to get to our custom Unifilter lifelong foam filter. By sealing off air from the engine bay and opening the big filter to the cowl duct by the windshield, the engine has access to the cold air it needs to perform at its best.
The engine performs better because of the high density of cold air as opposed to the heated air near the firing engine. Offering cold air is a kin to offering more air since more molecules are present in a given volume. This all leads to better explosions inside the engine and more explosiveness off the line.
The Unifilter foam filter breaths much better than the stock paper filter, and it never needs to be replaced, saving you money. All you need to do is rinse it with mineral spirits and spray it with filter oil in order to keep it flowing at its best. Keeping the filter clean is essential to performance of any foam filter. That is why we have made a smoked polycarbonate top for our air box. Just open the hood and take a glance at the filter and you'll know if it is time for a rinse.
New Design (undeniably better)
The major change is in material. Our original box was cut from .05 inch thick stainless steel and it was heavy and expensive. It was brought to our attention that while stainless steel is great because of its corrosion resistance, aluminum has a better insulative capacity, is lighter, less expensive, and can be made equally resistant to corrosion quite easily. That is why we can now offer an intake which weighs a total of only 3.43 lbs. Compared with our steel version at 6.2 lbs and the stock setup above 4.5 lbs. We have had them hit with a special powder coat process that maximizes surface area to aid in insulation while providing corrosion resistance.
The other changes are small improvements in usability. We had relied on hood pressure to keep the polycarbonate top in place, but this did not always work perfectly on track day. The tops now come ready to be secured in the box, as well as scratch free with protective film in place. Customers also desired to have the battery terminal secured more tightly. So the terminal is now clamped in place to avoid any rattles.
So, we have made some improvements to the design, and managed to improve the price at the same time, who does that?

Oil Catch Can
Out of Thin Air
Craven Speed's Oil Catch Can is a cool place for vapors to condense. If they didn't cool into liquid form in the catch can the next spot for them to appear is in your intercooler. This mixture of oil, moisture and blow-by gas causes carbon and sludge build-up in the intake system and engine. In order to keep them clean and functioning efficiently even under the hardest driving conditions.
Function Dictates Form
An oil catch tank is also an excellent engine dress up item that will give your car a racing image. Many of these cans use a small tube where you can check the level of liquid that had condensed in the can. Since an overflow would be extremely detrimental to the proper function of your engine, we machined an entirely clear catch canister. That way you can quickly determine if it is time to drain it.
Craven Speed Oil Catch Can has billet 6061 alum top and bottom, machined all over. The body is acrylic with a stainless steel connecting rod. The end caps use an o-ring for a complete seal. Over all size is 3 inch dia. x 4 inch length. There is a drain plug on the bottom for easy cleaning, you can also take the entire assembly apart if you wish. Weight is about 1 lb.
Applications
This Clear Catch Can is designed to fir a supercharged MINI without any modification or additional hose. It includes instructions on installation for this application. An experienced owner would be able to install the catch can for almost any desired application. A generic mounting bracket in included, but extra hose may be necessary for alternative applications.
